  • What can you do as a traveler?
  • What the industry can do together.

If you, as a traveler, would like to play an active role in reducing the environmental impact of your trip, you can choose to contribute to SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel)  make aviation less dependent on standard fossil fuels. Since 2022, KLM has purchased 0,5% sustainable aviation fuel for all flights departing from Amsterdam.  SAF prices by destination
You can receive the compensation via MY TRIP on the KLM website.

When you book a flight with KLM, you can also choose to offset part of the estimated CO₂ emissions of your flight by contributing to reforestation projects selected by KLM. The price for your contribution is calculated based on various factors that influence the amount of CO₂ emissions of your flight. For example, the type of aircraft, the distance and the average weight.

There are also other things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. Travel with as little luggage as possible, take your own water bottle on board and have it filled by the crew and choose to use your own earplugs during the flights, thus preventing waste from single-use plastic items.
